MCCAFFREY, GERALD LAWRENCE The death of Gerald McCaffrey of Woodstock, NB., husband of Helen (Ivey) McCaffrey, occurred on April 1, 2002 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital. He was 66. Born in Oromocto on May 14, 1935, the son of the late Mary (Holleran) and Thomas McCaffrey. He started his career with Canada Post delivering newspapers from his Aunt Maude's General Store and progressing to Postmaster in Oromocto and then served in Chatham, Fredericton and Woodstock until his retirement in 1990. He was the last Post Master of the Woodstock Post Office. He spent his retirement camping and hunting "out at Golden Ridge", attending bluegrass festivals and promoting the bands Carleton Country and Carleton Bluegrass. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Branch No. 2234, the Bluegrass Association and the Carleton County Amateur Radio Club. Until his illness, he was an active member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church serving as Eucharist Minister and in the Hospitality Ministry. He served as an Auxiliary member of the RCMP while in Oromocto. Besides his wife Helen, he is survived by his former wife, Christine McCaffrey and their six children, Linda (Daniel) Burke, Lincoln, Rosemary McCaffrey, Douglas, Monica McCaffrey, New Maryland, Larry (Kim) McCaffrey, Central Blissville, Heather (Reginald) Denny, Lincoln and Michael (Rosselyne) McCaffrey, Burton; step-children, Beverley (Ken) Crouse, Calgary, Alberta and Lori MacLean, McKenzie Corner; 11 grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica, Jennifer, Corey, Joshua, Jordan, Justin, Shelby, Dylan, Allison and Benjamin; five step grandchildren, Tanya, Joel, Beth, Christopher and Meghan; three step great grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor (Dr. Marcel) Brzak, Fredericton and Betty (Tom) Gilbert, Burton; brother, Arthur (Betty) McCaffrey, Oromocto and chosen brother, Charlie (Diana) Holleran, Burton; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at the Carleton Funeral Home Co-operative, Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville, N.B. on Tuesday 7-9 pm, Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am with Father Samuel Diotte officiating at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, Woodstock, NB. Interment at a later date at Calvary Cemetery. The pallbearers will be members of the Knight of Columbus Branch No. 2234. For those who wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer and the MS Society or to any charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
