THOMAS WASHBURN

WASHBURN, THOMAS Thomas William Washburn passed away on Friday, May 14, 2004, in Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. He succumbed to his wounds sustained in a terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia on May 1, 2004. He was working with ABB Lummus as a Project Manager. Thom was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick on September 24, 1963 and attended junior high and high school in Fredericton. He lived in various locations in Canada and United States, but also worked in China, the Czech Republic and Saudi Arabia. He had a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and an MBA from St. Ambrose University in Iowa. His passions included golf, bicycling and hockey. He is survived by his parents Sheila and Owen Washburn, sister Susan Blair (Chris), brother Kenneth Washburn (Trudy Gallagher), sister Nancy Washburn, nieces Emily and Jessica Blair, and nephew Cameron Blair. Included in his extended family are uncles Michael Caughey of Ottawa and David Washburn of Wirral, and aunts Barbara Dryden of Grand Bay and Diane Sloat of Cornwall, Nova Scotia. Thom was predeceased by uncle Larry Washburn and aunt Audrey Magee, and his grandparents, Earl and Estella Caughey, and Hibbert and Mabel Washburn. A memorial service will be held for friends and family on Saturday, May 29, at Wilmot United Church, Fredericton at a time to be announced. The family is setting up the Thomas Washburn Memorial Scholarship for local students intending to study Engineering.
