DR. DONALD ARTHUR MORGAN

MORGAN, DR. DONALD ARTHUR Dr. Donald A. Morgan died Monday, June 28, 2004 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Fredericton, NB he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Clara L. (Lyons) Morgan and husband of Ann (Morrison) Morgan. Dr. Morgan was a physician leader in the capital area, the province, and nationally with the Canadian Medical Association, since he began Obstetrical practice in 1971. He was involved in Medical and Hospital affairs at the Victoria Public Hospital and, since 1976, at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. In 1990, he became Chief of Staff at the Chalmers Hospital and in 1992 was named VP Medical and Chief of Staff with Region 3 Hospital Corporation, a position he held continuously until his retirement. Dr. Morgan played a leading advocacy role in the establishment of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Dr. Morgan was very active in the New Brunswick Medical Society, serving as President, as a member of its Board of Directors and Quality Care Committee, and chairing its Health Care Committee. In addition he chaired the Council on Health Care, the SubCommittee on Environmental and Occupational Health and the Working Group on Core and Comprehensive Services of the Canadian Medical Association. Dr. Morgan focused on enhancing the care provided to patients at the clinical level and leadership and governance forums. He was a dedicated professional respected by friends and colleagues, appreciated by patients, and loved by friends and family. Don grew up in Fredericton. He excelled at basketball and tennis while at Fredericton High and UNB. Don loved to read history, play with gadgets, spend time with his children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by us all. Dr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Ann of Fredericton, NB; one son, Jamie (Rachelle Charrois) of Edmonton, AB; three daughters, Sarah Morgan Lee (Ian) of Bonny River, NB, Patty Webster (Iain) of Halifax, NS and Pam Lowthers (Barrie) of Falmouth, NS; three grandchildren, Mary and Iris Webster and Olivia Lowthers. He was predeceased by his parents. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 30th, 2004 from 7-9 pm and Thursday, July 1st, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at Christ Church (Parish) Church, Westmorland Street, on Friday, July 2nd, 2004 at 11:00 am. Ven. John Sharpe will officiate. Interment will follow in the Rural Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes made to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. www.mcadamsfh.com
