GLEN BERNARD MACKENZIE
MACKENZIE, GLEN BERNARD The death of Glen Bernard MacKenzie of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Monday, August 23rd, 2004. Born in Elgin, NB, July 31st, 1903, he was the son of the late William and Isabella (Bishop) MacKenzie and the husband of the late Elizabeth (Giberson) MacKenzie. Glen completed his secondary schooling at night classes and then went to the Provincial Normal School where he received his First Class Teacher's License. He taught in the Lower Coverdale School and then took school principal ships successively at Grand Manan, Bristol and Florenceville. In all three schools, he introduced high school graduation ceremonies for the first time. Glen then taught in Fredericton High School for twenty years, followed by three years at the Teacher's College. Then, after a year in Ghana, he spent two years teaching at College Maillet in Edmundston, NB. Glen also represented local teachers in the New Brunswick Teacher's Association. He was a member of the Fredericton Golden Club, the Get Together Club of Brunswick Street Baptist Church, and he was a founding member of the Turps Art Club. Glen is survived by one son, Dr. Michael MacKenzie (Jerilynn) of Fredericton, NB; five grandchildren; two great - grandsons and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth; one son, David; his parents, and fifteen brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, August 26th, 2004 from 6-9 pm. The Memorial Service will be held at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Friday, August 27th, 2004 at 11:00 am with Rev. Terry Atkinson officiating and Rev. Tim McFarland assisting. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Honorary pallbearers will be James Waycott, Chris McFarland, Brent MacKenzie, Stephen MacKenzie, David Nicholson, Gordon MacKenzie and Paul Worthen. Interment will take place in the Bristol Community Cemetery, Bristol, NB at a later date.
