IAN RAY Ian MACBEAN

MACBEAN, IAN RAY Ian Ray MacBean, 61, of Stanley passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on February 5, 2005, following a lengthy illness. He was born and raised in Fredericton, a son of the late Ray and Jean (MacLennan) MacBean. He received a B.A., B.Ed., and M.Ed. from UNB and worked as an educator in various capacities for 32 years in School District 1809, primarily in the Stanley schools. Ian's major interests since retirement in 1998 have been Stanley's Just Friends Food Bank and the Stanley Community Library (both of which he chaired). He has organized the Stanley Area Sr. Citizens' Christmas Party for many years. A lifelong active member of the United Church of Canada, he has served the church in numerous ways. At the time of his death he was Fundraising Committee Chair and a choir member at Hillcrest United, and Mission and Service Fund treasurer for the Stanley Pastoral Charge. He enjoyed being a professional again by working on occasional projects for the Evaluation Branch of the Department of Education, and was fond of gardening. For the past 3 1/2 years Ian has faced cancer and cancer treatments with quiet courage, an unfailing sense of humour, and a continuing concern for the well-being of others. Ian is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sandra (Dorcas); three sisters, Audrey Reeleder (Del) and Gerrie Wood of Fredericton and Marion Wilding (Colin) of Whitby, ON; a sisterin-law, Anita MacBean of Peterborough, ON; eighteen nieces and nephews, four of whom reside in NB: Nancy, Sharon, and Peter Wood of Fredericton and David Pond of Woodstock; twenty-one grand-nieces and grand-nephews, including Jonathan Pond of Bridgewater, NS, and Geoffrey Pond, Hannah Wood, and Laura and Joshua Wood of Fredericton; four aunts, Vivian O'Donnell of Fredericton, Marjorie Rice of Royal Road, Beth Black of Miramichi, and Ruth Bonnar of Golden, BC; and several cousins. He was predeceased by a sister Myrtle, a brother Scott, a brother-in-law Floyd Wood, and nephews Eric and Carl Reeleder. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in the Taymouth Community Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the Hillcrest United Church in Stanley on Monday, Feb. 7, 7:00-9:00 PM and on Tuesday at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, from 2:00-5:00 and 7:009:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at the T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, York Funeral Home, on Wed. at 2:00 PM, the Rev. Murray McFarlane officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Stainforth, Pat O'Brien, Gordon Wilson, Bob Capen, Bob Pond, and Bob Harvey. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, the family would appreciate donations to the Stanley Just Friends Food Bank, the Stanley Community Library, the Stanley Homecoming 2000 Bursary Fund, the Terry Fox Foundation, or any charity of the donor's choice.
