MONA LYONS
LYONS, MONA It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Mona R. (Morton) Lyons; her life ended far too early on June 29, 2005. Mona was wife, mother, sister, aunt, godmother, sisterin-law, cousin and equally valued as a lifelong friend to many. Mona was born in Fredericton on June 27, 1941 to Vernon J. Morton and May (Dykeman) Morton. Besides her parents, Mona was predeceased by brother-in-law Jack Lyons and two nephews Andrew Smith and Dale Snowden. Surviving family members are her husband of 43 years Jim Lyons; sons Mitchell of Moncton and Dale at home; her only sister Bette Joyce of Fredericton; in-law relatives Lyle and Shirley Smith of Fredericton, Mavis and Eugene MacDonald of Fredericton, John and Norma Johnson of Ottawa and Mona's only Godchild Matt Freeman of Halifax; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved 1941 girlfriends and cherished Pot Luck gals and multiple lifelong friends. Educated primarily in Cambridge, Ontario, Mona relocated to hometown Fredericton at the beginning of the 1960's. She held many governmental computer positions over the years and at the time of her illness, was employed with the Federal Government (Human Resources Canada CPP/OAS) Hanwell Place. Mona was indeed unique in her outgoing personality. Mona lived, loved and laughed her 64 years. Family was her ultimate priority with a close second being her enduring friendships which included Anna Allen of Fredericton and Barb Freeman of Moncton. The long evity of these friendships, covering many, many decades speak volumes of Mona's warmth, sincerity and love, which she extended to nearly everyone she met. Our loss here on Earth is Heaven's gain; as Mona is now with her Lord in whom she believed and loved. The family will receive condolences at Bishop's Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road Fredericton on Friday from 6 to 9 pm. A very special celebration of Mona's wonderful life will be held on Saturday July 2, 2005 at 11:00 am at St. Anne's Chapel of Ease on Westmorland Street with the Venerable John Sharpe officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Barb Freeman, Anna Allen, Joanne Hallett, Pat Murray, Rosamond Gregory, Myrna Richard, Dawn Steeves, Isabelle Wilby, Marina Grasse, Marg Robinson, Sherry Brewer.
