CLIFFORD JAMES BROWN

BROWN, CLIFFORD JAMES Clifford James Brown, born January 28, 1924; passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, November 09, 2005: at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Son of the late Arnold and Della Brown; he is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Shirley (Dauphinee); daughter Mary Ann and Bob Holmes, of Vernon B.C. and family Jonathan and Shannon: Rebecca and Miles and Kara and great grandson Will,: son Jim and Debbie Brown, and family Jarod, Lacie and Sarah of Edmonton, Alberta; and his twins-daughter Debbie and son Dereck both at home; sister Louise Walker, Agnes (Ross) Manthorpe; Edna (Ross) Kingsley; Edith (Jr.) Morehouse; and brother Harry (Theresa) Brown; sisters-in-law Patricia Brown and Helen Brown; brother in-law Fred Dauphinee (Mary). Cliff is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many special friends and neighbors. Cliff was predeceased by his parents Arnold and Della, brothers Robert, Miller, Keith, Morris and Sam. Cliff joined the Army on January 20, 1942; in Halifax, NS. and went overseas from August 1943 to June 30, 1946. He was a Veteran of D-Day, and very proud to have served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, In June 2005, Cliff was one of the few Veterans selected to go back for the 60th, Anniversary of the Canadian landing on the beaches of Normandy on the 6th of June 1944. Cliff was proud to represent the RCEME Regiment. Through his Military Career, his postings included; September 1955, CFB Kingston, Ontario; August 1956, CFB Valcartier, Quebec; August 1959, CFB Kingston, Ontario; and August 1961 CFB Gagetown; where he retired with the RCEME, in January 1974, with the rank of Sergeant. Cliff served as a United Nations Peacekeeper in Egypt from 1964-65. Upon retirement from the military, in April 1974, he worked at the Water Treatment Plant; and in August 1975. he worked at the Indoor and Outdoor Pools at Base Gagetown, before retiring in September 1988. Cliff's hobbies included curling, as he was a lifetime and Honorary member and past President of the Gage Golf and Curling Club: he enjoyed gardening, fishing, fly tying, hunting, painting, stain glass and feeding his beloved squirrels. Cliff was well known for tying and building salmon fishing rods and spent countless hours fishing with his brothers Harry and Miller, friend Ben and son Deek and guiding on rivers in NS, and Miramichi and Nashwaak rivers in NB. Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Friday, November 11, 2005 from 7-9 pm. Memorial service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Rev. William Morehouse officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Anglican Cemetery following the service. Family flowers only, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
