MARJORIE RUSSELL

RUSSELL, MARJORIE The death of Marjorie Russell occurred at Northwood Nursing Home in Halifax on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009. She was formally of Oromocto and the Miramichi. Marjorie was born in Pokeshaw, Glouchester, NB. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Evelyn (Crushing) Whelton and the wife of the late Bevel James Russell who was retired from the Defence Department. Her childhood friends remember her as an avid swimmer who was fearless as she dove from the cliffs at her father's farm on the Bay of Chaleur. Marjorie was a dedicated teacher who taught grades 1-8 in a one room school in the community in which she had been raised. She later was an award winning saleswoman and went on to work for the Canadian National Railway. It was while working there that Bervel met her when he went to purchase a railway ticket. She was most happy when in her home, cooking for family or friends and playing with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and worked for many years with the CWL. She was also a member of the Von and loved to play bridge. Marjorie is survived by one brother, Joseph Whelton of Saint John, and by five of her six children, Thelma Innes (David) of Fredericton, Harold (Patricia) of Burton, NB, Paula King (Henry) of Nine Mile River, NS, Dawn Russell (William Johnson) of Halifax, NS and Clara Grey (Billy Pitite) of Sydney, NS; seventeen grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Erin, Natalie, Pauline, Emily, David, Russell, John, Robert, Susan, Cheryl, Emma, Bill, Anna, Melanie and Tara ; great-grandchildren, Alex and Ben. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Bervel; brothers, Reggie, Gerald and Robert; sisters, Edna and Lilly. Visitation will be held at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on Friday, May 29th, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 at 11:00 am. at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Ken Weir as Celebrant. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of the Evelyn Sweezey Memorail Fund @ St. Thomas Univsersity, The Parkinson's Society or The Northwood Foundation. . www.oromocto.fh.com
