JEAN FOSS

FOSS, JEAN - Of Sand Cove Road, died peacefully at Loch Lomond Villa on October 3, 2002. Born in Saint John, January 30, 1922, she was the wife of the late Charles H. Foss and daughter of Samuel and Harriet (Milner) Weston. Jean was primarily a wife, Mum and Grammy for over half a century. Her love of gardening, bridge, continued learning and her family's interests gave her great joy during her retirement years, first at home at McLaren's Beach, later at the Admiral Beattey Complex and Loch Lomnod Villa. Jean grew up in West Saint John, attended Saint John High School (1939), and became a lab technician before serving in England as a volunteer ambulance driver during the Second World War. After the war she worked in the Canadian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service, where she met her future husband, Charles Foss. Jean was active for many years as a Girl Guide Leader and Commissioner in Lancaster and later as a Cub leader. She worked with the Occupational Therapy Dept. at the Dr. Roberts Hospital School, retiring in 1984. She attended various Anglican churches throughout her life. Jean is survived by two sons, Geoffrey (Barbara) of Hampton, and Peter (Lynn) of Saint John, and two daughters Josephine (Joey) Baird (Gordon) of Pocologan and Marianne Nielsen (Erik) of Aldergrove, B.C., one sister, Nancy Weston of Calgary, Alb., two sisters-in-law, Frances Lowe and Janet Weston of Halifax, N.S., and grandchildren: Heather (Baird) McBriarty, Jennifer and Alexandra Baird, Jeremy and Caitlyn Foss, Joshua and Laura Foss, John and Tim Nielsen, and several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Charles and brothers Ralph (Jane) Weston, and Frank Weston. The body is resting at Cavanagh Funeral Home with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. George's Anglican Church followed by cremation and burial in St. Anne's (Musquash).
