
RAYMOND BERTELSEN
BERTELSEN, RAYMOND - Raymond Bertelsen passed away peacefully on August 9, 2003 at the Grand Falls General Hospital. Born at Grand Falls on February 20th, 1914, he was a son of the late Maurice and Ella Bertelsen. On April 1, 1937, Mr. Bertelsen joined National Revenue, Customs & Excise at the Port of Grand Falls as a Customs Officer. In 1957, was promoted to the rank of Supervisor and worked in that capacity for 20 years. He went on to assume the position of Superintendent until his retirement in January 1977, spending 40 years serving the department. Mr. Bertelsen was an avid hunter and fisherman with great appreciation and respect for nature. He was a member of the Grand Falls Sporting Club and held a 40-year membership with the U.C.T. Mr. Bertelsen was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor McLeod in June 2002, his brothers Ralph, Chester and Aubrey Bertelsen, and his granddaughter, Kara Lynn Birkland. He is survived by his loving daughters Barbara Ann Birkland (Kenneth) of Rochester New York and Linda Rae Devost (Roger) of Grand Falls. Dear to his heart, his grandchildren, Krista Oremus (John) of Rochester NY and Robert Birkland (Amber) of Fairport, NY, David Devost of Grand Falls, Susan (Devost) Mulherin of Halifax NS, Tommy Devost of Moncton, great-granddaughters, Jennifer and Sarah Oremus of Rochester NY, his sister Lillian Carlson of Brockton, MA and his brother Alan of Montreal, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and family at O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls on Monday evening August 11th from 7-9 and Tuesday August 12th from 1-2. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:00pm. at O'Regan's Funeral Home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. www.oregans.ca
