GERALD ROBERT ALFRED (GERRY) McPEAKE

McPEAKE, GERALD ROBERT ALFRED (GERRY) - Halifax, N.S. Gerry passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2004, encircled by the love and warmth of his family, after a courageous struggle with cancer.?Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Arthur and Eileen (McKinnon) McPeake. Before retiring, Gerry was an air traffic controller with the Department of Transport in Gander, Nfld., and then Fredericton, N.B., where he was actively involved in services and programs in the church, Scouts Canada, and other community organizations. Gerry leaves to grieve his loving wife Marlene (Marly), devoted sons Christopher (Kim), Matthew (Paige), adored daughter Heather (Phil), precious grandson Aidan, brother Michael (Diane), sister Sandy (Sonny), sister-in-law and friend, Ann Harling, his aunt, Helen Morris, several nieces and nephews, and faithful canine companion, Loki. He was predeceased by brother Gordon. His many friends and colleagues in Newfoundland and New Brunswick will fondly remember Gerry and although he lived in Halifax for only a short while, he became actively involved in the life and fellowship of Rockingham United Church and other community programs. Special thanks to Dr. Grant Gillis, the nursing staff on 9B at the Victoria General Hospital, dedicated Palliative Care and VON staff, many dear friends from Rockingham United Church and caring neighbors and friends in the community. The family will always remember their support and comfort during Gerry's illness. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at Rockingham United Church at 3 pm on June 19th, conducted by Rev. Martin Reid, with interment at the Oakridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.?
