BELYEA, HELEN ELIZABETH GRAVES FRASER - After a brief period of failing health, Helen Elizabeth Graves Fraser Belyea passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2004.The eldest daughter of William Robert and Hazel Graves Fraser, she was born in Fredericton in her parents' home on Brunswick Street on February 20, 1915. She was predeceased by her father in 1957, her mother in 1989, and her youngest sister, Muriel (Oran) Wallace in 1992. Four months after celebrating their fiftieth anniversary on January 20, 1990, her husband, Abner Barnett Belyea, suddenly passed away. She was predeceased by her stepson, Kevin Gatcombe Belyea, in 1966. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth - Ann (Banny) Belyea of Lower St. Mary's, NB, and her son, Gerald Eldon Belyea of Grand Lake, NB; her sister and brother- in - law, Dorothy and Chester McClure of Toronto; her sister Muriel's daughters and grandchildren, Nancy and John Godin, Johnny, Angela and Randy; Cindy and Douglas Randall, Andrew and Jessica; Kevin's children and grandchildren: Sue Belyea, Amanda and Jared; Andrew and Giselle Belyea, Danielle and Kevin; Penny Belyea; Kevin's widow, Joy Belyea. She is survived by many relatives in both Canada and the USA. Her devoted care-giver is Pearl Banks. Also bereft is her daughter's dog, D'Arcy, who visited her every day. She grew up next to the Brunswick Street Baptist Church parsonage, and through her friendship with the minister's daughter, Jean Warren, began her long association with the church, which she joined in 1927. She was an active participant in numerous church activities, beginning with CGIT in her youth, and ending with the last Senior Citizen's Lunch she attended in September 2004. She was a Dominion Life Member of the WMS, a member of the Ben Evlyn Missionary Society, the Friendly Fellowship and The Get Together Club. She loved knitting sweaters for the baby showers held by the church. This September, she was honoured at a tea at Wilmot United Church, as she was a charter member of the Fredericton Women's Inter - Church Council. She graduated from FHS in 1933, and the Provincial Normal School in 1934. She taught in a one - room school in Charters Settlement for three years (and that was considered so far away from the city that she boarded there and walked home on the weekends), and then taught Grade 4 at Charlotte Street School, prior to her marriage. She was teacher, wife, mother, friend, and home maker, par excellence. Her children wish to thank all the wonderful people on 4NW at DECH who made the final weeks of our Mum's life comfortable. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, November 4th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Friday November 5th, 2004 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Greg Gildart will officiate. Interment will be in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension. No flowers by request.
