
ELSIE M. SHANKS
SHANKS, ELSIE M. - Lovingly surrounded by her family, the death of Elsie M. Shanks occurred on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Mace's Bay on July 21, 1922, Elsie was the daughter of the late John M. and Annie H. (Davis) Mawhinney. Elsie attended Modern Business College and was employed at Saint John Shipbuilding and Dry Dock, and later with Ports Canada. She was a faithful member of the Mace's Bay United Baptist Church. She served as Sunday school teacher, church clerk and mission's treasurer of the local Missionary Aids Society. Elsie contributed generously of her time and talents to all. Besides her loving husband Harold, Elsie is survived by one brother, Ralph Mawhinney (Irene) of Mace's Bay, one sister, Ruth Richardson (Fraser) of Saint John, and one sister-in-law, Inez Mawhinney (late J. Milford) of Mace's Bay. She is the beloved aunt to Marlene Hutchings (Murray), Stuart Mawhinney (Shelley), Glenda Cooke (Rocky), John Mawhinney (Patti), Judy Duke (Tom), Kevin Richardson (Kim), and Kelly McLellan (Kerry). Elsie is the loving great aunt and great-great aunt to 28 nieces and nephews. She is also survived by cousins Isabelle McKay and Gordon Howes. Elsie is predeceased by brothers Robert Gray and J. Milford. Resting at Castle Funeral Home Fallsview Chapel, 309 Lancaster Ave., (634-1701) with private family visitation. A Funeral Service will be held in the Fallsview Chapel on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 1 o'clock. Interment Mace's Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Elsie to the Mace's Bay United Baptist Church, Mace's Bay Cemetery, or to a charity of donor's choice.
