He also worked for the Department of Agriculture driving bulldozer for 4 years. His love of farming and the outside brought him to purchase the farm in Dorn Ridge where he raised beef cattle, gardened and worked in the woods. Russell loved to hunt and every fall spent time with his family and friends at the camp in Otter Lake, Millville. He also liked to go four-wheeling, ski-doing and watch hockey games. He hand-crafted many pieces of furniture, axe handles and trinkets in his wood shop. His wooden statues in the pasture caught many a passing eye. His weekly outings to play cards drew him to Community Halls and many friend's homes. Russell's great stories of the past and his life experiences will remain in the hearts of his family and friends. Russell was a member of the Dorn Ridge Church of Christ. After he moved to the area he helped to reopen the church, then later became a Trustee. He was the Chairman and Trustee of the Dorn Ridge Cemetery Inc., served on the Local Service District for the Douglas area, was on the Board of the Keswick Valley Seniors Complex, was a member of the Keswick Valley Senior Robin Group and a member of the Alexandria Masonic Lodge #33.
