
OWEN KENNETH CRAIG
CRAIG, OWEN KENNETH - It is with great sadness the family of Owen Craig of Saint John announce his passing after a long courageous battle with his health. Owen died on January 23, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 77. Born 1931 in Saint John to the late William and Ida Craig. Owen worked for the City of Saint John Fire Department for over 35 years and retiring in 1991 as District Chief. He was also employed with the Corps Commissionaires. Owen was a true Scot at heart and for most of his adult life played the bagpipes; his true passion. He played for the Carlton York Pipe Band, Caladonia Pipe Band and was a member of the Jervis Bay Legion Pipe Band and co-founded the Saint John Fire Department Pipe Band. Owen was involved with the Children's Wish Foundation, a member of the KV Bowling League, the KV Seniors Club and was a member of the Jervis Bay Legion Branch #53, the Carlton York Club and past member of the Main Brace and the Press Club. An avid Blue Jays Fan; he enjoyed his busy life and was committed to his family. Devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend; he was a true hero to his children and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Owen will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his devoted wife and best friend of 57 years Mary Evelyn (Ferris); two sons Michael (Kathy) and Paul (Cathy) both of Saint John; daughters Pat McKay (Trevor) of Fredericton, Pam Craig (Ron Stevens), Lynn Sharkey (Harold) and Christine Raynes (Eric) all of Saint John; 15 grandchildren Jennifer, Jamie, Stephanie, Joey, Samantha, Sarah, Aaron, Jeff, Tara (Jeff), Matthew, Shawn (Tina), Stewart, Christopher (Erin) and Kelly; ten great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends. Besides his parents, Owen was predeceased by his son Owen Craig, Jr. in 1995, grandson Michael Billard in 2007 and two brothers Raymond and William. Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424) with visitation on Monday January 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Main Street Baptist Church, 211 Main Street on Tuesday January 27, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Private family interment to take place at a later date.
