We as a family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of George Neis on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the age of 79 years. He passed away at Victoria Hospital with his family by his side after a brief struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 10 at River Park Memorial Chapel - 301 River Street West. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 11 from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church-260-25th Street East, by Father Matthew Nguyen. George was born December 23, 1929 to John and Bertha Neis in Cudworth, SK. George attended school there until he went to work in the smelter in Trail, BC. From there he moved into the lumberyard business, eventually managing the Monarch Lumber in Domremy, SK. In 1954 he married Hilda Stanjek in Cudworth and they settled in Domremy to raise their family. In 1964 he purchased the Gamble Hardware Store, which he operated, until he moved to Prince Albert in 1972. George was Head of Maintenance for the Prince Albert Co-operative Association until his retirement in 1995. His family was George's priority throughout his life. The family home in Prince Albert and the cabin at Wakaw Lake was the scene of many happy times, between playing cards and fishing, visiting with children and grandchildren and entertaining friends and relatives. George will be missed by Hilda, his wife of 54 years; his children Arlene (Les) Roseveare, Taylour (Fiancée Desiree Harrison), Morgan and Bryton, Gordon (Lynne) Neis, Carly and Connor, Audrey (Darrell) Schultz, Kaitlin and Logan; his brother Clarence (Joyce) Neis of Kamloops and family; his brother-in-law Chris Rieger and family of St. Albert, AB. George will also be missed by many other relatives and friends. He predeceased by his parents John & Bertha Neis; his sisters Delphine Kramer, Sister Mary Rosa Neis, Rose Rieger; his brother Jerome Neis. Interment will take place in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family's request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan - 1231-8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5.
