VERNON JAMES KIRKPATRICK
KIRKPATRICK, VERNON JAMES - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vernon James Kirkpatrick, 74 of Fredericton, NB on May 19, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Hoyt, New Brunswick, on March 11, 1935, he was the son of the late George and Thelma (Eastwood) Kirkpatrick. Following high school graduation, Vernon spent two enjoyable years travelling and working in Western Canada before returning to live in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was employed for 33 years by the Department of National Defence at CFB Gagetown. Starting his career as an electrician and retiring in 1992 as an electrical supervisor. He was a member of St. Margaret's Anglican Church for over 50 years, an active lay-reader for over 35 years, and a cherished fixture of St. Margaret's "Tuesday Morning Coffee Club". Along with his lay-reading duties, he served as a vestry member, church warden, scouting leader and group committee chairperson. Vernon enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the Eastern United States, and also spending many summers at Macquapit Lake. Vernon is survived by his wife of 52 years Eleanor (Boole) Kirkpatrick, two sons, Jim (Katie Sowers) of Thunder Bay and their children Stuart and Brianne; Roger (Angie Lawrence) of Fredericton and their children Zachary and Jacob; one daughter, Joanne (Gerard) Longobardi of Florenceville and their children David and Hilary; two nieces and two nephews. Vernon is predeceased by his parents, his sister Norma (Plaster), and his brother Alan. Visitation for the late Vernon James Kirkpatrick will be held on Friday, May 22 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at St. Margaret's Anglican Parish, 775 Forest Hill Road, Fredericton, NB. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 23, at 2 pm at St. Margaret's Anglican Parish, with the Rev. Canon Jon R. Lownds officiating. Honourary pallbearers are: John Archibald, Jim Chandra, Bardy Connell, Les Coy, John Hodgson, Jeff Mofford, Ken Mofford, Carl Murray, Harlan Nason, Wayne O'Hara, Craig Spinney, and Murray Warman. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Margaret's Anglican Parish or The Chalmers Regional Hospital Foundation.
