MARK PATRICK GILLIN
GILLIN, MARK PATRICK - P. Eng., B.Sc., F.E.I.C. - In Ottawa on July 18th, 2009, at the age of 84. Predeceased by his parents Colonel Mark and Marie (Desbarats) Gillin, his first wife Constance (Choquette) in 1968 and his second wife Heather (Petrie) in 1997. Pre-deceased also by a nephew, Gregory Brown. He is survived by his wife Lois Walker Gillin, his six children: Janet, Louise, Mark, Andrée, Jeffrey, and Christopher, and six grandchildren: Scott, Emma, and Rebecca Campbell, and Corinne, Gabrielle, and Mathieu Desjardins. Also survived by his sister Ann Brown in England; sisters-in-law Andrée Aylen (John), Denise Aylen (Derek), Susan Buckley (Bruce), Ruth Petrie; several nephews and nieces, and a step-son, Jim Walker and step-daughter, Nancy Rector. Pat was the founding president of the Building Owners and Managers Association, Ottawa Chapter, Past-President of BOMA Canada, Past-President of The Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa, Past-Chair of the Board of Governors of Ashbury College, Past-President of the Board of Governors of the Rideau Club and long-time Board member of The Elizabeth Bruyere Hospital. Pat was a graduate and a long-time supporter of The University of New Brunswick, an institution which he dearly loved. He funded bursaries for Engineering students, assisting over 400 students financially over the past 35 years. UNB honored him by bestowing a honorary D.Sc. degree in 1981. He served many years on The Board of Governors and for the past few years as Governor Emeritus. Pat was the Ottawa Business Person of the Year 2003. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair, & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Monday, July 20th, from 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, 95 Somerset Street West, on Tuesday, July 21st at 10:30am.
