JOGGINS The death of Eleanor M. Reid, age 84, of Joggins, NS, occurred at the Gables Nursing Home on Saturday, February 14, 2009. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late William and Edith (Leggett) Gabriel

Eleanor was a devoted wife of 66 years and loving mother to seven children. She was artistic and creative, expressing herself through her paintings, driftwood art and quilting. Eleanor was especially fond of walks on the beach with her husband Don, where they collected many fossils. She loved music and baking and was renowned for her pies. She will be especially remembered for her kind and generous heart. She was a member of the Joggins United Church.

Eleanor will be sadly missed by her husband, Donald; daughters, Gloria (Ovila) Melanson, Joggins, Donna Swim, Halifax, and Diana (John) Reid, Kingston, ON; sons, Douglas (Rose) and John (Barbara), both of Maccan, Leonard (Darlene), River Hebert and Donald (Lynn), Lyons Brook; sisters, Wynnita (Frank) Gallant, Calgary, Donna Gabriel, Springhill, Louise Gabriel, Amherst, Prima (Roy) Tower, Amherst, Norma (Jim) Harrison, Boston, and Bessie Hayes, Cornwall, ON; brothers, Richard (Rhona) Gabriel, Springhill and Elmore Gabriel (Stella), Joggins, 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She was predeceased by sisters, Roxanna, Geraldine, Kay and brother Lawson.

Eleanor's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for family and friends is on Monday, February 16th from 7 to 9. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 17th at 11 a.m. Following the memorial service a reception will be held at the Joggins Fire Hall. Burial in the River Hebert Cemetery in the spring.
