THORNE, GERALD WILLIAM - The death of Gerald William Thorne occurred on January 5, 2010 at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 77. Gerald was residing in Medicine Hat, Alberta but was previously a long time resident of Saint John and Titusville, New Brunswick. Born in Saint John, Gerald was the son of William Thorne (born Bristol, England) and Myrtle Devine (born Saint John, New Brunswick.) Gerald was predeceased by his wife Jean Alice Thorne (Sawyer) on January 19, 1992; sister, Trudy (Doug) Allen, and; brothers, Norman (Ida) Thorne, Osborne (Nadine) Thorne, and Ralph (Norma) Thorne. Gerald is survived by his children, Gregory Thorne (Joanne Hurley) of Saint John, New Brunswick and Carolyn Thorne (David Huestis) of Summerside, Prince Edward Island; grandchildren, Brandon and Dylan Thorne of Hampton, New Brunswick; brother, Donald (Mary) Thorne of Bloomfield Ridge, New Brunswick; partner, Judy Robertson of Medicine Hat, Alberta; and many nieces and nephews residing in various parts of Canada and the United States. Following the return of Gerald's ashes to New Brunswick, an additional private memorial for family members will be held.
