Anthony Francis 1923-2003 BIG COVE, NB - Anthony Francis, 79, husband of Louise (Sock) Francis of Big Cove, NB, passed away at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton on Friday, March 21, 2003 after a brief illness. Born in Big Cove, he was the son of the late Martin Francis and Mary (Paul) Francis. He attended Ste. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Big Cove. He was Chief of the First Nation Reserve from 1957-63, a former President of the Union of New Brunswick Indians and a driving force in the fight by New Brunswick Indians against the imposition of the provincial sales tax. He is survived by his wife, Louise; seven daughters, Mary Louise Pete (Don), Bangor, ME, Eva Graham (Robert), St. Charles, Arlene Michael (late Alex), Cape Breton, Marcie Francis (Paul Cullihall), Amherst, Connie Nevin (William), Big Cove, Lynn Francis, Big Cove, Shyla Francis, Big Cove; three sons, Stanley (Leona), Eel Ground, Hubert (Florence), Big Cove, Brian (Carrie), Big Cove; two sisters, Mildred Milliea (late William John), Big Cove, Jane Levi (late Tom), Big Cove; grandsons, Mark Peters (US Marines) and Martin Michael (Canadian Armed Forces); 25 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Emery. Resting at his home in Big Cove on Union Street. Funeral Mass will be held at Ste. Anne's Roman Catholic Church, Big Cove on Monday, March 24, 2003 at 2:00 pm with Father Denis Morand officiating. Interment in Ste. Anne's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
