Norman Rubin
Norman Rubin 1926-2003 Norman Rubin, 77, of Moncton passed away peacefully Monday, December 8, 2003 at the Dr. Georges-L Dumont Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Montreal, Quebec, October 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Reuben and Anne (Freedman) Rubin. Norman will be sadly missed by his loving and caring wife of 46 years Adelle (Goos) Rubin; four daughters, Susan (Alan Locke) Calgary, Alberta, Rhonda, Moncton, Janyce (Paul Arsenault), Moncton, and Nancy (Mark Donohue), Halifax, Nova Scotia; grandchildren, Andrea and Steven Locke, Julie, Lynne and Natalie Arsenault, Colson and Tess Donohue; and brother, Dr. David Rubin (Myrna Lamouroux), Moncton; sisters, Marilyn and Delores predeceased him. Norm was a well-respected businessman at Rubin's Department Store on Main Street for over 25 years. He was a true believer in Moncton's potential and was actively involved in his synagogue and a number of local community organizations including the YMCA Board of Directors, the Chamber of Commerce and the Moncton City Club. The lights shine brightly on Main Street every holiday season largely through Norm's efforts as a founding member of the Moncton Central Business Development Corporation. In the 1990's, he proudly served on the Board of The New Brunswick Museum, helping to steer its expansion and relocation. Norm voiced his passion for politics through his involvement with the Moncton West Liberal Association and never wavered, despite a few too many Liberal defeats. He relished the time spent with his family and the pride in their accomplishments was evident. His daughters have inherited Norm's love of sports and his competitive spirit. For many years, Norm spent his summers golfing and enjoying his cottage at Cape Brule, while his winters were spent curling at the MCA and gliding around the rink with his many "girlfriends". He was open-minded, generous and knew the highest level of charity is giving freely and anonymously. He greeted friends and strangers alike with a warm smile and a joke. Raise a glass of Chivas - two fingers, on ice and a splash of water - to a dear husband, loving father, brother and zaide and a friend to many. The funeral is at Tiferes Israel Synagogue, Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Tiferes Israel Cemetery, Dieppe. In lieu of flowers, donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
