
R. Douglas McCallum
R. Douglas McCallum SACKVILLE, NB - The death of R. Douglas McCallum, age 83, of Sackville, occurred suddenly at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 14, 2004. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Gordon McCallum and the late Nellie (Gibson) (McCallum) McGee. Doug was a member of the St. Ann's Anglican Church and the K-40 Club. He was a life member of the Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and holder of the Legion Meritorious Service Medal and Palm Leaf, he was past president of the branch, past district commander of West/Albert District, and past provincial president of the New Brunswick Command. A veteran of WW II, he served as Captain in the Canadian Air Force in Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a career officer with the Air Force following the war, serving 28 years before retirement. He is survived by his loving wife, Muriel, (Halliday) McCallum, Sackville; two daughters, Judith (Robert) Law, Victoria, BC and Elizabeth Brock, W. Vancouver, BC; two sons, Donald (Lois) McCallum, Exeter, ON, and Rob McCallum, Moncton; five grandchildren, Chris (Irene) Law, Mark (Jolene) Law, Jessica Brock, Katherine McCallum and Robbie McCallum. He is also survived by a sister, Mabel Wry, Cultus Lake, BC and a half-brother, James McGee, Kent, England. He was predeceased by his first wife, Katherine (Snowdon) McCallum in 1969. The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at 2:30 pm, Father Kevin Stockall officiating. Burial in the Westcock Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. The Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a legion service Saturday at 7:30 pm. www.jonesfuneralhome.ca
