Lorne Allison Harris NEW GLASGOW, NS - Lorne Allison Harris, 76, Stellarton Road, New Glasgow, formerly of Little Harbour (Melmerby Beach) passed away December 19, 2005 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Somerville, Mass., he was a son of the late David Allison and Charlotte (Sweet) Harris. Lorne had been a resident of New Glasgow the past nine years prior to which he resided in Little Harbour (Melmerby Beach). Lorne was a member of the Bluenose Curling Club for 48 years and was inducted in to the Bluenose Curling Hall of Fame in 1995, an honorary life member of the Royal Caledonian Curling Association, Past President of the Nova Scotia Curling Association, former President of the Abercrombie Golf and Country Club and Little Harbour Community Centre, member of the Little Harbour Fire Department and was inducted into the Pictou Co. Sports Heritage Hall of Fame in 1998. Lorne loved fishing, and all sports and was involved in horse racing for a number of years. Lorne operated the Needs Store in Westville, the Old Millsite Store in Little Harbour, Abercrombie Variety and ran the canteen at Melmerby Beach. Surviving are his wife, the former Phyllis Smith; daughter, Margaret, at home; son, Jimmie (Ann MacGregor), New Glasgow; sister, Olga Donald, Moncton, NB; brothers, Vance (Barb), St. Eleanor's, PEI, Garland (Kay), Arizona, Garth (Ann), Summerside, PEI; several nieces and nephews. His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow from 7 to 9 pm Tuesday evening, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Wednesday. Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm Thursday from Little Harbour Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joanne Vines officiating. Burial will be in Church Brook Cemetery. Donations in memory of Lorne may be made to Little Harbour Presbyterian Church or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
