Frederick Allison McKinley 1918 - 2006 ALMA, NB - Frederick Allison McKinley, 87, of Alma passed away peacefully on April 16, 2006 at The Moncton Hospital with his family by his side. Fred was born in Hastings, Albert County, NB on December 13, 1918 the son of the late Alfred and Beulah (Butland) McKinley. Fred joined the Military and worked for the Military Police in Fredericton before going overseas and serving with the Medical Core in World War II. He later worked at Fundy National Park from 1950 until his retirement in 1979. Fred had a great sense of humour and enjoyed his life until the end, joking and laughing with his family. He was known for his green thumb and took great pride in his ability to grow plants of all kinds, having many plants in his house. He loved being outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, and bird watching were a big part of Fred's life. He especially cherished times spent with his family, Fred was a special man who will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Veta (Rossiter) McKinley; his four daughters, Rhoda Crandall of Sussex, Paula Akerley (Gerald) of Alma, Louise Flaglor (Wayne) of Sussex and Phyllis Thorne-Calvert (Eric) of Alma; his three sons, Stuart McKinley (Ginny) of Black's Harbour, Austin McKinley (Rhonda) of West River and Allan McKinley (Heather) of Riverview; his 19 grandchildren and his 10 great grandchildren. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Fred was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his three sisters, Ruby Weston, Alice Walker and Freda Butland; and son-in-law, Dean Thorne. He will be resting at the St. Stephen's United Church in Alma with visitation on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held at the St. Stephen's United Church on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 2pm with Rev. Val Chongva officiating. Interment will be held in the Alma United Cemetery.
