Reginald Alderson
Reginald Angus Alderson age 77 passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Moncton Hospital in Moncton, NB following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Springhill, NS he was a son of the late Ephrem and Geneva (McKay) Alderson.
In his younger years he worked as a miner in Springhill and later moved to Toronto, ON where he was employed at Siberling Rubber for 23 years. Later Reg and his family moved back home to the Maritimes where he found employment at Oxford Frozen Food and Trenton Medal Works. Due to layoffs, Reg again moved back to Ontario where he worked for Consumers Contributing Ltd. in Brampton ON, for several years. Being a true maritimer at heart he decided again to move back home where he later retired.
Reg was an active member of the Amherst Lions Club since 2001, where he served in various capacities and was honored with the Lion of the Year Award in 2009 and also was recognized by the town of Amherst as the volunteer representative for the Amherst Lions Club. Reg was a real family man and enjoyed spending quality time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren. He was truly a gentleman and will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife of 57 years the former, June MacDonald, his wonderful sons, Gregory (Pauline) of Burlington, ON, Randy (Cher) and Timothy (Lee) of Flesherton, ON; brother, Ephrem (Elizabeth) of Springhill, NS; as well as his special grandchildren, Carrie Lynn, Christopher, Robert, DJ, Michael and Katelyn; his little angel, great grandson, Mason; special niece, Eleanor Beaton of Springhill, NS, also surviving are many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Eleanor McManaman.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst (667-9906). Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Later everyone is invited to join his family for a Celebration of Life at the Amherst Lions Den, Electric St., from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
