Dorothy Teresa Thompson, formerly of Dipper Harbour, wife of the late Harley Thompson, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John on March 22, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Edna (Hayward) Gunter. Dorothy was a great horse enthusiast, who in her younger years taught riding and looked after horses in the Laurentian and St. Lawrence River area of Quebec. Even after her marriage, she and Harley kept horses, and she frequently was called upon to judge horse shows. Dorothy is survived by two sons, Richard Thompson (Laura) of Dipper Harbour, and their children Natalie Bent (Joey), Megan Urquhart (Ross), Rebekah Connors (Jared), Aaron Thompson, and Joseph Thompson; and Andy Thompson of Saint John and his children Janine Thompson, and Selena Thompson; a great grandson, James Bent; her step-mother, Audrey Gunter of Saint John; a brother, Harold Gunter (Charlotte) of Charlottetown, PEI; a sister-in-law, Ivy Gunter of Quispamsis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by brothers Douglas Gunter and Garth Gunter.
Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West, with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM from Bay View Chapel. Interment will take place in the Chance Harbour Cemetery.
