RISSESCO, Jerimah Joseph "Jerry" — 78, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away on February 28, 2010, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born August 28, 1931, in Parrsboro, he was the son of the late Thomas Anthony "Tony" and Margaret (Duggan) Rissesco. He was a strong family man who enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, his children and grandchildren. Jerry enjoyed travelling and gardening. He was an amazing father and grandfather and many special memories were made on road trips throughout Canada and during family gatherings. Jerry, a graduate of the Nova Scotia Normal College, taught public school for over 30 years in Saskatchewan, Alberta and in Nova Scotia in Cumberland, Colchester, Kings, Shelburne counties, as well as Halifax County (Harrietsfield Elementary School, Herring Cove Junior High School and Gertrude Parker Elementary School). He was recognized for excellence in teaching in remedial reading while teaching in Herring Cove. Jerry served as a local President of the Nova Scotia Teachers' Union in Halifax County. He was active in scouting, serving as a cub leader in Spryfield. After retiring from teaching, Jerry worked as an instructor at the Windsor Workshop. He enjoyed making a difference as an educator and working both with youth and adult learners. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ida Mae (Vaughan) and children, Darlene Anne (Mathew) Nuqingaq, Iqaluit, Nunavut; Angela Marie (Robert) Brooks, Winnipeg, Man.; Jeffrey Joseph (Leah), Lower Vaughans; Dale Anthony (Ani Tudisco), Timothy Wayne (Genevieve Harvey), both of Dartmouth; and Brian Wade (Carrie), Mill Section; grandchildren, Katrina and Brittany Brooks, Tuqqaasi and Jerimah Nuqingaq, James Rissesco, Owen and Neil Rissesco, Daniel Rissesco, Laura Rissesco, Gideon Nookiquak,and Ashley Hysert; also brother, Thomas (Marianne) Rissesco, Dartmouth; sister, Mary Smith, and sister-in-law, Ethel (Jake) Van Gogh. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Eleanor Rushton, Annie DesBrisay and Veronica "Bonnie" Wamboldt. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors Wednesday, March 3, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 339 King St., Windsor, with Rev. Father Michael Walsh officiating. Burial was held in Maplewood Cemetery, King Street, Windsor, with a reception following back in St. John's Parish Hall.
