Jean Colter
COLTER – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a very special lady, Jean Christina Colter (Johnston) who passed away pm March 2, after a brief illness. Left to celebrate her life is her husband, Doug Colter; her three daughters: Sandra Boiselle (Denis) of Calgary, AB, Darla MacDonald (Ron) of Calgary, AB, and Dixie Colter of St. Paul, AB; her grandchildren: Doug Boisselle (Katherine), great grandson Kyle, Mick Boisselle (Crystal, Christine MacDonald and Kelsey MacDonald); and her brother Jim Johnston (Violet) of Calgary, AB. She was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Jean Johnston; brother Robert Johnston; and sister Georgina Misner. Jean was born December 4, 1925, in Medicine Hat, AB, and lived in Coaldale, AB for the first 13 years of her life. There she attended Readymade School. Her family moved to their ranch south of Gull Lake, SK, where she attended Grainbelt School. Jean loved the ranch and her love of horses continued. She met Doug Colter at a ball tournament and they were married in 1951 in Medicine Hat. They started their life together Verlo, SK, moving to Hazlet in 1957, and then to Gull Lake in 1975. She played softball many years with the ‘Hazlet Hornets’ playing a mean third base. Her curling took her all over the province and one of her many claims to fame was her bender in 1969 in Hazlet. Jean’s first priority was her family. She shared her love of sports and the outdoors with her family. She always had a boston terrier and each one was a very important part of her life. We were very blessed to have Jean for our wife, mother and grandmother. We will always love you. A private family memorial will be held a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Sask. SPCA or Gull Lake Ambulance.
