ARTHUR FRANCIS YOUNG
FEBRUARY 3, 1921 – MARCH 14, 2010
It is with sadness, that the family announces the passing of Dr. Arthur F. Young, at the age of 89 years. Art was born and raised in Emo, Ontario. He was a bit of a baseball legend around Emo, as a renowned pitcher and hitter. The son of a pioneer doctor, Art enjoyed the great out-of-doors, and had many strange pets growing up (including a bear and a skunk). He took his medical degree in Winnipeg, where he met the love of his life, his wife Joyce. Art completed his post-graduate training at Harvard University. He started his work with the Moose Jaw clinic in 1955 and continued his surgical practice there until retiring in 1986. Art was proud to live in Moose Jaw where, in spite of his intense work schedule, was actively involved in Zion United Church, the Hillcrest Sports Centre and the Masonic Lodge. Upon his retirement, he had more time to spend travelling with Joyce, lunching or coffeeing with “the boysâ€, curling, golfing and vacationing at their beloved cottage, in Northwestern Ontario. Arthur lived his life with a passionate pursuit of excellence. He inspired all who loved him to do the same. Art was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce; children, Mareen (Ron) Johnson of Calgary, Graham (Denise) Young of Saskatoon and Kathleen (Paul) Sudom-Young of Moose Jaw; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Samuel, Natasha (Jory), Landon, Simone and Dalyce; and one great-grandchild Benjamin Arthur, who was born February 23, 2010. Art is also survived by his brother Donald Douglas (Thora) Young of Winnipeg, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many dear friends. Art’s Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday March 18, 2010 at Zion United Church with Reverend Doug Hallman officiating. Memorialization will take place at a later date. For those so wishing memorial donations may be made to Zion United Church, General Fund, 423 Main St. N., S6H 0W5. In living memory of Arthur, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J.
