No one personified this statement more than Joanne Marie Pyke, and it is with sadness that we announce her passing on March 18, 2010. Joanne passed in the arms of her loving fiancée Jason MacDougall and surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joanne is survived by Jason and her three beautiful children, her son, Hunter and her daughters, Chloe and Brianna. She was beloved by her father, Michael (Jo Jo) Pyke, her mother, Cheryl Keoughan, her sister, Jolene (Matt) Pyke and her brother, Michael (Erica) Pyke. Joanne was also an important member of the family to Jason’s mother Cecilia MacDougall, his sister, Jennifer (Patrick) Richard and his brother, Shaun (Alana) MacDougall.Â
Joanne was predeceased by her grandparents, Joseph and Marion Pyke as well as her uncle, Keith Pyke.
Joanne’s happiest times were spent surrounded by family during holiday celebrations and summer trips to Iona. She especially loved time spent with Jason, the love of her life, and her nephews and nieces, Summer, Mason, Jeremy and Brennan.
It has been said that a mother is someone who can replace all others, but can never be replaced. Joanne’s children will always remember her as a loving and devoted mother.
Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2010, at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2010, at St. Theresa Church, Sydney, with Fr. James Oliver officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care (Cancer Centre) or the IWK Children’s Centre, where Joanne spent much time as a child.
