Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Poirier, brothers, Clyde and Earl and four siblings in infancy, Nell, Adam, John and Cyril. Also predeceasing her were her sisters-in-law, Louise and Peggy and brothers-in-law, Ches Barrett and Edgar Rowe.
A devoted and loving wife, mother and nannie; she took great pride in her home and family. She surrounded us with beautiful things all through the years. Whether it was cooking, sewing, needlework, stuffed toys, dolls or crafts, mom always achieved perfection with everything she put her hand to. We are so lucky to have some of her work, which each of us will cherish forever. Also in her healthy years, mom enjoyed the outdoors. She always said that the most beautiful scenery in the world was right here in Cape Breton and she and dad enjoyed many day trips exploring the island. She had a passion for fishing, loved gardening and enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family and board games with the children. With her great sense of humour, she was known to play a few practical jokes in younger years.
For the pat five years, mom had been a resident of the Cove Guest Home, Creative Care Unit, and we would like to sincerely thank the staff for their wonderful care. The family would also like to thank Dr. John Archibald and Dr. Arif; the nurses and staff of Units 4D and 4C and most recently, the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Cremation has taken place, in keeping with Nancy’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral services under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel will be held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Friday, 2 p.m. with Rev. Brenda Drake officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery. Following the service a reception will be held in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Alban’s Church, the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of choice.
