LATURNUS - Elmer Joseph, 82 years of Val Marie SK, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Prairie View Health Centre Mankota, SK. The funeral service was held Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 2:00 pm from Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Val Marie, SK, with Father Juanito Vargas and Father Raymond Carignan officiating. The soloist was Kathy Grant. Ushers were Myles Laturnus and Larry Niedermayer. Urn Bearer was Dwayne Pinel, honorary pall bearers were all those present. Elmer is survived by his children Mark, Valerie and Michael; girlfriend Lorraine Viturat; John Laturnus, Lillian Lazurka, Casper(Theresa) Laturnus, Alex(Helene) Laturnus, Lorraine(Arnold) Fink, Leona(Louis) Beauchamp, Rose Asplund, Eleanor Niedermayer, George Laturnus, Helen(Ernest) Pinel, Hilda(Roland) Facette; his in-laws Sonny & Helen Proust, Eddy & Joy Trottier, Patsy & Gerald Hagen, Josephine Kasper, Dale & Susan Trottier, Pat & Jean Trottier, Joe Jr. Trottier, Shirley & Jim Holden, Glen & Irma Trottier, Larry & Lynn Trottier, Edna & Rene Cyrenne, Steven Trottier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John & Magdelina Laturnus; his sister Regina; his wife Joan; brothers in-law George Lazurka, Leo Niedermayer, Ralph Asplund and Walter Korchinski; his in-laws Joseph & Valerie Trottier; and nephew Neil Holden. Elmer was born in Vibank SK, on April 2, 1926. He attended school in Stoney Trail. Elmer married Joan Trottier in 1971 at the court house in Swift Current. He was employed at Val Marie for Louis Letourneur and Edward & Francis Olson. He worked in the garage with Harry Richards. Elmer also worked for Louis Croteau, Pious Glas, Mike Andree as well as Uncle Joe Laturnus in Daven on a dairy farm and in Odessa for his Uncle Martin Glas. Elmer loved playing baseball, hunting, skating in winter and swimming in summer on Sand Lake, he loved watching TV. He enjoyed farming, driving his tractor and working on machinery, his love was for his cattle and horses. Thanks to everyone for the sympathy cards, food, phone calls and all who attended the funeral. A special Thanks to the staff at Herbert Hospital and Prairie View Health Centre Mankota for the special care give to Elmer. Donations can be made in Elmer’s Memory to Canadian Cancer Society.
