Marie Augusta Richardson was born in Lommel, Belgium August 3, 1913 and died at the age of 95 at Moose Jaw Union Hospital April 5, 2009 following complications from pneumonia. Marie immigrated to Canada with her parents and four older brothers in 1920 settling in the Carlyle area. After completing school Marie worked for many farm housewives in the Carlyle/Manor area. She married John (Jack) Richardson of Wauchope in 1939. They lived in Moose Jaw, Baldwinton, Crane Valley, Creelman, Rosetown, and returned to Moose Jaw in 1971. Marie enjoyed many hours crocheting, knitting and doing needle work. She was a long time CWL member, a member of the CPR Pensioners, and Timothy Eaton Seniors. Marie moved from the Rosewood to Chateau St. Michael’s in September 2007. Predeceased by her husband John (1977), parents Jacobus and Josephine Van Ham and brothers Henry, Frank, Oscar and his wife Frances, and Emil; Marie is survived by her daughter Anne Richardson - Moose Jaw; daughter and son-in-law Faye and David Helmerson - Regina; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Lisa and Jason Walters, Joshua, Jonathan, Naomi, and Olivia - Calgary; Shawn and Stephanie Helmerson, Alexandra, Andrew and Anna - Ottawa; Erika Helmerson - Vancouver; and Kristian Helmerson and Lindsay Stetner - Regina; sister-in-law Catherine Van Ham - Calgary; nieces and nephews; and very special friends Mary and Wray Lynch- Moose Jaw. An Evening Prayer Service will be held Monday April 13 at 6:30 pm in the Chapel at Chateau St Michael’s, 525 7th Ave SE, Moose Jaw. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday April 14, 2009 at 11:00 am at Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan St., Moose Jaw. Reverend Father Tony Sevali will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please honour Marie by reconnecting with a friend. Donations in Marie's memory to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation would be appreciated by family. In living memory of Marie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
