Mharbe Rafih

Rafih, Mharbe - 48, Windsor, Ontario, formerly of Truro, Nova Scotia. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce Mharbe's passing on Saturday, March 27, 2010, surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mharbe was a young boy of four when his family immigrated to Canada. Mharbe was a bright-eyed boy with an impish grin that did not diminish with age. He spent his early years in Calgary until the family moved east in 1974 to Truro, Nova Scotia. It was in Truro that his father, Papa, opened the family restaurant, Damascus Pizza & Donair, which remained in the family for 34 years. The restaurant became such a familiar landmark that it was difficult for Mharbe or any of the family to go anywhere without being recognized. Mharbe co-owned Damascus with his brother Zack until 2002, when he and his family moved to Windsor, Ontario. Mharbe worked in the automobile industry while in Windsor. Mharbe was a successful businessman but his greatest joy and accomplishment was that of his family.

Mharbe was the son of Kataya (Mama) and the late Mahmoud (Papa) Rafih. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sue, and their children, Talal, Zack, Meyada and Amir, all of Windsor, Ont.; sister Zakia (Adnan) AbouZeeni, Windsor, Ont.; brothers, Terry (Kathy), Windsor, Ont.; Joe (Rhauda), Wolfville, NS; Abdul (Donna), Truro; Zack (Dawn), Truro; many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Mharbe has been laid to rest beside his father in Windsor, Ontario. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
