George Clifford Williams

Truro - It is with heavy hearts the family of George Williams announce his passing at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, N.S. on March 15, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
George was born July 21, 1939 in Dartmouth, N.S., to the late Captain Clifford and Kathleen (Hughes) Williams.
George served 14 years with the Canadian Coast Guard based out of Dartmouth resulting in a transfer to Charlottetown, P.E.I. After leaving the Coast Guard, he was employed with the CNR in Charlottetown until 1980 when he was transferred to Moncton, N.B. Here he retired in 1994 before moving to Truro.
George was a person who loved to be involved. He shared his time with the Dartmouth Dolphins Diving Club, Charlottetown Fire Department, Masonic Lodge both in Charlottetown and Moncton, The Order of the Eastern Star and the Rainbow Girls in Moncton. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Riverview. St. George's and St. John's Anglican Churches, Truro. The Golden "K" Club, Redcliff Middle School Band, Canadian Red Cross and Valley-Kemptown Fire Brigade. He was known as "Ranger George" to all Seafoam Campers, where we had a trailer for 7 years. With all this he took pride but his truest passion next to his family was Scouting.
George joined Scouting as a Cub in 1946. It was in 1957 he started his true calling as a leader. He has tirelessly worked with youth all over the Maritimes and beyond. George had troops in Dartmouth, Charlottetown, Moncton, Riverview, and Truro where he still had his troop the 2nd Bible Hill Scouts until he could no longer could attend. George was better known as "Scouter George" to many and he will surely live on through many leaders and youth.
George is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Ruth Ann (Montigny) of Charlottetown, two daughters Georgina "Gina" Carr (David) and Paula Williams-Hume (Garnet) both of Truro and he was known as "Gumpy" to the apples of his eyes his granddaughters Sabrina and Anna. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen Eyland and half brother Capt. Guy Williams both of Dartmouth.
As requested by George, his body has been donated to the Dalhousie University for the furtherance of medical research, however, everybody is invited to a Celebration of his Life which will be held at the Bible Hill Village Hall on May 1st from 2:00 -5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "The Scouter George Youth Camping Support Fund" Colchester District or to a fund for the education of George's granddaughters, Sabrina and Anna.
