Born February 18, 1930 in St. John’s; died May 6, 2009 at home in Outer Cove. Son of the late Samuel and Violet (Murphy) Baker. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Marion (Muir); children: Patricia Lévêque (Mario), Maureen Baker (Neil King), Noelle Baker (Phil Oliver), Brenda Baker (Terry Prim), Douglas (Tracey), Corner Brook, Ted (Cheryl Fenk), Calgary, Colin (AnnMarie) and Jim; grandchildren: Colin Fahey, Patrick, Philippe and Alexander Lévêque, Amy and Emily Baker and Maria Baker; sister, Joan White; brother, Bernard Baker (Cheryl). Predeceased by siblings: Madonna, Mary, Billy, Jack and more recently, John. Sam was an avid golfer and salmon fisherman and made many friends in his 79 years, both in St. John’s where he grew up and on the West Coast where he lived in Stephenville in the 1950’s. He was Managing Director of Muir’s Marble Works Ltd. for over 30 years, which prospered under his guidance. Funeral Mass was held Saturday, May 9th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Outer Cove. Private interment followed Monday, May 11th at Belvedere Cemetery, St. John’s. Family and friends celebrated Sam’s life at his residence following his funeral.
