It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the death of Frederick James Betcher Smith of Amherst on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years of age.
Born in Pugwash he was a son of the late Frank M. and Maude E. (Betcher) Smith.
Fred above all was a family man; his best days were spent with family and friends at the cottage and in outdoors activities.
Fred was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife the former, Neita Black; sons, Ira (Doreen), Amherst, Gordon (Sharon), Cole Harbour, NS; daughters, Carolyn (Bill) Landry, Karen Bennett (Chris Hopper) both of Moncton, NB; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and their extended families.
Fred was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Smith and Elsie Ehret and brother, Charles.
Visiting hours were held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with Funeral service on Monday at 2 p.m. Rev. Byron Corkum presiding held in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Interment took place in the Birch Grove Cemetery, Little River, followed by a reception in the Nazarene Church, Oxford.
