It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Reginald Lawrence MacDonald, 68, beloved husband, father, brother and uncle, on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, Reg was the son of the late A. J. and Edna (MacNeil) MacDonald.
He was employed on the Marine Atlantic Vessels for 39 years retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Northern Yacht Club, and a former executive member. He was associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #19 North Sydney. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, and in his youth he was awarded the Queen Scout of Canada.
Reg enjoyed spending time during the summer months with family and friends at his trailer at Bonnar’s wharf in Georges River.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marie (Clancy) MacDonald; one daughter, Sharon (Ricky) Cousins, Sydney Mines; two sons, Ronnie and Sean MacDonald, both of North Sydney; two brothers, Hugh MacDonald, Hamilton, Sandy (Marg) MacDonald, Kitchener-Waterloo; his sister, Sylvia (Darrell) Stark, Detroit; brother-in-law, Ron (Marlene) Clancy, Leitches Creek; sister-in-law, Sharon Morrison, Sydney River; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and companion,, Ralph.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by one sister, Moira McGrath and brothers-in-law, Ernie Morrison and Doug McGrath.
Visitation for Reg will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, May 24 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Northside Hospital Foundation.
