It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. John Edmund Stapleton, 81, Brady Drive, Groves Point, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, May 23, 2009. Eddie was doing what he liked best — carpentry.
Born in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Henry and Viola (Young) Stapleton. He was a member of St. Joachim and St. Joseph churches. Eddie worked as a dispatcher for Municipal Ready Mix in Sydney until his retirement in 1993.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Margaret (Keeling), daughter of the late Sam and Ethel Mae Keeling, Florence; his sons, Bryan (Anne Marie) Peachland, B.C., Shane (Louisa), Maple Ridge, B.C., Eddie (Erin), Ontario, Mark (Susan), Ontario, and Bill (Janice), LLoyd Minister, Alta.; his daughters, Charmaine (Mike Greenlaw), Digby, Maura (Brian Brady), Hillside Boularderie, Verna (Colin Harrison), Grand Isle, B.C., Lucy Devoe, Sydney, Corrie, Fort McMurray, Judy (Stephen Dolhanty), Fort McMurray, Paula (Glen Edmunds), North Sydney, Suzanne, Sydney, and Starr (Patrick Wilkie), Kirkland, Wash.; his sister, Wilma ‘Sis’ Vickers, Bras d’Or. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother in infancy, Henry ‘Buddy’.
He will be greatly missed by his 45s friends in Big Bras d’Or and Hillside Boularderie.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction and guidance of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m in St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating.
