John M. Lyons, 90, of Shediac passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 following a sudden illness. Born October 2, 1919 in Shediac, he was the son of the late Francis and Eugénie (Thibodeau) Lyons. John was an accountant with CN for 42 years prior to his retirement. John was very active in community service as a founding member, board member and past President of la Coopérative de Shediac, a founding member of la Caisse Populaire de Shediac, a former member of School District #13, a former member of the Town of Shediac Council and Planning Commission. He also was a founding and board member of la Villa Providence Inc., a former member of the Athletic Club, the Boishébert Club and a parish council member of Saint Joseph Parish, Shediac and a member of la Vestiaire Saint Joseph, Shediac. John will be sadly missed by his brother Dr. A.E. Edward Lyons (late Audrey) of Windsor, N.S and his children, Marilyn, Michael, Robert, Paul and Nancy, a sister-in-law Marguerite LeBlanc (late Thomas) of Dieppe, two brothers-in-law, Edgar Gauvin of Moncton and René Bourgeois (Antoinette) of Cap Bimet, by many nieces, nephews and friends. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Bernadette (Bourgeois) Lyons in 2000. Visitation at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297) on Sunday, from 2 to 4p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of departure at 10:20 a.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Shediac on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in the parish cemetery.
