Marjorie Florence (Clarke) Crothers: Marj was born on September 21, 1915 at 15-10-21-3 and passed away in Medicine Hat on June 24,2010. She was the eldest of her twin siblings, John and Gwen. At the home of the bride's parent on the Bench in 1942 in a double wedding, Marj married Percy Crothers and her sister Gwen married Walter Cole. Marj attended Bone Creek School, and her first teacher, EIsie Adair, made an impression on her. Marj became interested in education. She took her grades nine and ten by correspondence at home, completing the two grades in one year. In Shaunavon she took her grades eleven and twelve, also in one year. She then went to Normal School in Moose Jaw, and was a teacher by the time she turned eighteen. Marj taught in Hazlet, Pine Coulee, String Butte, Manville, Hay Creek, Stonepile, Tompkins Colony and Tompkins School. Family and friends were very important to Marj and 5he will be deeply missed by all of them. Both her and Percy had a love for animals and for gardening - in Tompkins they each had their own garden separated by path. Marj loved to cook with butter and cream, everything she made tasted good. An exception were her raisin squares and popcorn ba11s. She is survived by her children, Adair (Vern) Prouty, Fern Drinkwater, Gloria (Jim Wi1son) Drinkwater and Morley (Laurie) Crothers and families; one sister, Gwen Cole of Strathmore, AB and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Clarke of Castlegar, BC,; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Percy (1915-2001), Marj was predeceased by her parents, Hector (1890-1962) and Florence (1897-1988) Clarke; son, Hec (1957-
1975); two grandchildren, Melanie Drinkwater and Bonnie Bruce (1963-1986) and one brother, John Clarke (1919-1999). Also Percy's family, parents- Holden and Marie Crothers and sisters - Lena (Harold) Person and Rachel (Hugh) Reed. A celebration of Marj's life was held on July 5 at 2:00 in the Community Hall in Tompkins, SK. Eulogist was Anne Slade. Honorary pallbearers were those who shared Marj's life. Memorial gifts in Marjorie's memory may be made to the Gull Lake Ambulance Services or the Tompkins Seniors Centre.
