Lillian 'Pearl' Hayes (MacGibbon) - 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 17, 2010 at Dartmouth General Hospital.
Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Kathleen (Matheson) MacGibbon and Alec MacGibbon.
In her youth, Pearl attended Sydney Academy. She later attended Xavier junior college, an experience she spoke about with great fondness. A devoted wife and mother, she always put her family first. Family meant the world to her, and she meant the world to her family. Pearl's amazing personality, sense of humour and quick wit made her a joy to be around. She took great interest in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and was always there to offer support and encouragement to them.
She is survived by her loving husband Jimmie; sons Brian (Kelly), Terry (Donna), David (Deneen), Barry (Ann-Marie), all of Dartmouth, and daughter Dawn (Jeff) Sabean of Windsor, Nova Scotia. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Tara, Michael, Krista, Mark, Alisha, Alex, Devon, Mathew and Madeline, as well as her sisters, Rita Gambel of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Karen Johnston of Sydney.
She was predeceased by brother Nelson MacGibbon and infant sister Marion MacGibbon.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
