Appleyard; Irene Ferne Appleyard, age 88 of Gull Lake, Sk. passed away May 28, 2009 at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre. The Memorial Service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday June 4, 2009 from Knox United Church in Gull Lake with Reverend Bev Diduck officiating. The organist was Millie Spagrud accompanied by Nora Rudolph King Gin and the Knox United Church Choir. The Life Tribute was presented by Jo Appleyard and the Urn bearer was Barrie Appleyard. The interment service was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Irene is survived by her children; Fae (Gerry) Lyngstad of Thunder Bay, Ont; Ron (Janice) Appleyard of Gull Lake, Sk. Jim (Jo) Appleyard of Swift Current, Sk.; Barrie Appleyard of Regina and Deb Appleyard (Bill Rebyrna) of Regina, Sk.: grandchildren; Rita (Don) Bel; Victoria and Allison Bel of Thunder Bay, Lisa (Ian) Naismith and their children Yolanda of Thunder Bay; Daniel of Calgary; Mark Lyngstad of Thunder Bay; Monique (Dan) Chapman of Lethbridge; April Appleyard of Prince Albert; Paige (Aaron) Simm of Saskatoon; Jason Appleyard of Red Deer and Chad (Jannelle) Appleyard of Rocanville, Sk. She was predeceased by her husband Charles in 2004, three brothers, Harold, Rupert and Wesley; three sisters, Mary, Ethel and Doris and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law. Irene was born on July 5, 1920 on the family farm in the Antelope District. She attended Kemmel Hill School at Antelope. On February 7, 1941 she married Charles Appleyard in Medicine Hat and the couple lived on the family farm at Antelope until retiring in 1972 and then moved into Gull Lake. Irene was a member of the Antelope Community Aid, Gull Lake Quilting Ladies and a member of the Prairie Profile History Book. Irene also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, latch hooking, needlepoint, which she had hanging on the wall in her house. She also made quilts, which some of the family still have. Later in her retirement years she took up golf and enjoyed it. After leaving the farm, Irene and Charles did some travelling to places like Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji and trips to different places in the States. They were happy being at home around family and friends, playing the odd card game or just visiting. She enjoyed the family get togethers and having her grandchildren around. Irene will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all of her family and friends. In her memory, memorial donations may be made to Autumn House in Gull Lake or the Gull Lake Special Care Centre.
