BENJAMIN - Viola Louise of the Swift Current area slipped quietly out of this life on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the age of 78 years. Viola was born August 25, 1932 to Peter and Anna Stobbe of Rush Lake. She was the eldest child of the family. They moved to Rabbit Lake when she was three years old and her youth was spent in this community. Vi completed her high school studies in Rabbit Lake. She taught school briefly then moved to Saskatoon for employment. She worked as a teller in the Bank of Montreal, and the Toronto Dominion Bank for a number of years. She raised her family in Kyle, SK. In 1985 she moved to Swift Current and again took employment in the TD Bank. She and Harold Benjamin were married in 1987. They celebrated their 23rd aniversary in the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current where Vi was recuperating after hip surgery. Along with Harold, Vi lived in several communities in southern Saskatchewan and enjoyed developing many friendships over the years. Harold and Vi retired to Swift Current in 1996 and enjoyed busy years of retirement. Vi was also active in the First United Church. Vi also developed a passion for crafts in her retirement. She was a skillful artist in counted cross stitch and encouraged friends to take up the art. She took up the art of quilting and has several masterpieces to her credit. Most of the family members are beneficiaries of this work. Vi cultivated friendship and family connection with determination. She bequeaths to us this awareness of the value of family and community. We trust that her spirit now rests in peace with our Lord and all the saints of the church who have travelled this journey of life. Vi leaves to mourn her passing her husband Harold; son Rick Anton of Maple Creek and daughters Sandra Hodgins of Eston and Sherry Anton (Mark Fawns) of Medicine Hat; granddaughters Janelle Hodgins, Calgary, Megan Hodgins, Saskatoon and Shauna Hodgins, Eston. She leaves a stepson Bill Benjamin and granddaughter Emma Werezak of Saskatoon and a stepson Ray (Marlene) Benjamin of Calgary and stepdaughters Michelle Benjamin (Greg) Blaney of Vancouver and Jody Benjamin (Michael Ball) of Ottawa. Other family members who will miss her are her brothers Al Stobbe of Rabbit Lake, Lois (Charlie) Comerford of Chilliwack, BC, Jack (Trudy) Stobbe of Saskatoon and Ken (Marli) Stobbe of Surrey BC; brother-in-law Don Dormouth of Spiritwood; sister-in-law Carol Stobbe of Saskatoon as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her first husband Eric Anton, brother Peter Strobbe and sister Neta Dormouth. A memorial service was held on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 2:00 pm from the First United Church, Swift Current, SK with Shirley Wilson officiating. Interment service followed at the family plot in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Vi's memory to the First United Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice, would be appreicated by the family. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
