Later he left for BC to work on a logging crew. In 1942 he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and married Hilda Lowe on October 5. He was sent overseas in 1943 where he served as a radio operator in WWII. He landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and his unit also crossed France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He returned from the war in 1945 and purchased the Ericson farm west of Kyle. With Hilda by his side they farmed for 37 years and raised a family of six daughters. He loved to fix things and was a great handyman. He built a new house on the farm in 1967. In 1983 Norm and Hilda retired from farming and moved to Swift Current where they continued to work hard and remain active. Norm had numerous hobbies and interests. Together with Hilda they loved to fish and camp. Later in life they travelled to McAllen, Texas in the winters. Norm enjoyed golfing, woodworking, cribbage, whist, blackjack, hooking rugs and needlepoint. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Kyle, Branch #124. Norm was also very musical and as a young boy he taught himself to play the accordian and guitar. He was a devoted husband and father. He took great pride in his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and teaching them to fish and play cribbage. His greatest joy came when he was able to take them on a special trip to Hawaii where he could watch them play in the sand. After Hilda's passing Norm returned to Kyle where he received exceptional care at the Kyle Distict Health Centre. The bereavement service was held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Swift Current, SK on Monday, September 13, 2010 with Reverend Jonathon Hoskin officiating.
