JOHNSON - It is with great sadness that we wish to share the passing of George Albert Johnson at age 72. He was a vibrant, loving, and caring father, husband, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. It seems as though he could not stay in this world without his wife and soul mate of 33 years, Lois. He will be fondly remembered by his daughters, Teri (Warren) of Kelowna, BC, Yvette (Herb) of Swift Current, sons; Joe (Jenn) of Swift Current, and Byron (James) of Kelowna, BC; his sister, Lorna (Joe) of Red Deer; brothers-in-law, Bill (Madeleine) of Swift Current, and David (Barbara) of Calgary; his grandchildren, James, Jennifer and Allie and Terilee and Dylan; his nieces and nephews, Steven (Linda), Lane (Lori), Mark (Val) and Monica, and Lisa and Neal and Michael and Christy. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois, June 5, 2009; his parents, Joe and Georgina Johnson; and his birth mother, Pearl Butler. George or "Georgie" (as his mother liked to call him) was born on May 24, 1937, at Cabri, SK. His school years were spent at Braddock and he worked at many different jobs from farming to cooking in the camps up north, to trucking, to bus driver and taxi driver. He supported his children by joining the parents committees of the local Job's Daughters, Air and Sea Cadets, Beaver/Cub groups and swim clubs. He belonged from the local CB Radio club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, local Emergency Measures Organizations and local Rural Crime Watch. George was a confirmed bachelor for many years, sharing his own special brand of parenting with his nephews, Steven, Lane, Mark and niece, Monica. Uncle George had a unique relationship with each of them and they have many memories of his laughter. His sister, Lorna, fondly remember her brother love for all animals especially dogs. After suffering a major stoke, in 1992, he moved in the Palliser Regional Care Centre, where he joined his wife Lois. Words can't express the gratitude we feel for the staff at the Palliser Regional Care Centre for the care and compassion they showed both or parents. We appreciate the care and compassion extended by staff to our family during the finally hours both of our parents. The memorial service was held Monday, June 15, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. from First United Church, Swift Current, SK, with Reverend Kevin Johnston officiating. The organist was Marilyn King, accompanied by the United Church Choir. The life tribute was presented by Bonnie Dueck and a special poem was read by George's son, Byron. Honorary pallbearers were Dylan Johnson, Steven Janke, Mark Janke and Lane Janke. Members of the Fraternal Order of Eagle formed an honour guard. In George's memory, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
