It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of father, brother, grandfather, and uncle Frank Stanley Boyd Jr. B.A., M.A., B.J., of Halifax, NS. Frank was born on December 23, 1943 . He passed away very peacefully October 3, 2010 at VG Hospital. Frank led a full and productive life. He was a well known humorist, researcher, journalist, sociologist and creative writer. He held positions as director of the Black Cultural Center, employment counselor for Canada Employment and Immigration, social worker for the City of Dartmouth, training officer for the Canadian Human Rights Commission, a frequent lecturer at Dalhousie, Saint Mary's and Kings College, and a field Director for Black United Front of Nova Scotia. He was also the support group leader for Multiple Myeloma Canada and a member of the Maritime Arabian Horse Association. After being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, he fought selflessly to gain funding for the use of Revlimid in Nova Scotia hospitals. With the aid of W5 and enormous self sacrifice the drug is now approved for all cancer patients. As an author, Frank wrote "McKerrow" which can be found in the Queen's Library and Prime Minister of Canada's library. He was presently working on another book called "Bone Pain", to chronicle his battle with cancer. Son of the Late Frank Sr. and Mae (List) Boyd. Survived by his son: John-David (Stacy) Boyd, Quispamsis, NB. Former wife: Mary (Allen) Boyd Cambridge- Narrows, NB. Brothers Henry (Jennifer) of Halifax, NS, George of Montreal, Quebec, Ivan (Linda) of Halifax, NS, Anthony (Janice) of Dartmouth, NS. Sisters: Juanita (Donald) Seale, Ottawa Ontario, Muriel (John) States of Halifax, NS. Evelyn (Claude) Bricault Dartmouth, NS, Clara (Joe) McCarthy of Halifax, NS. Grandchildren: Raevin, Deidre, and Kodei-David. Several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Friday October 8, 2010 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. At A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home 217 Portland St. Dartmouth
Funeral service will be held Saturday October 9, 2010 10am at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Upper Hammonds Plains. Rev. Lennett Anderson officiating. Interment at Pleasant Hills Cemetery Lower Sackville.
