Edith Huggard

Edith Huggard (nee Lawson) passed away suddenly in hospital in Fredericton on October 22, 2010 at the age of 93. She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Otty Huggard, brothers Albert, Robert, Frank and Everett Lawson, and sisters Bertha Mundle, Vina Hannah and Hazel Fraser. She is survived by her three sons: Paul (Judy Norrad) of Saint John, David (Barbara Bell) of Fredericton and Peter (Linda Ritchie) of Calgary, and her six grandchildren: Bobby Huggard (Pam), Janice Lifford (Troy), Kim Eaton (David), Mike Huggard (Angel), Marc Huggard (Susanne) and Christy Hammond (Richard). She also adored her ten great-grandchildren: Kayla and Ben Huggard, Tyler, Claire, Abby and Brett Lifford, Zachery and Wyatt Eaton, Maddie Huggard and Emma Hammond. Her family was her greatest joy. They will always treasure their precious Nonie. Edith was born in 1917 and grew up on a farm near Rexton, one of eight children. After attending Normal School in Fredericton, she taught for five years before marrying Otty and living in Gagetown, Sussex and Fredericton. She lived a very active life up to the time of her passing, revolving around her family, her wide circle of friends, Christ Church (Parish) Church and bridge. She directed the church's craft group for 25 years, was a life member of the Anglican Church Women and was a member of the IODE for 56 years. She was one of the first to receive the City of Fredericton's Unsung Heroes Award for her volunteer work, and was named Woman of the Year by the Beta Sigma Phi sorority in 2004. She continued to play bridge regularly, meeting weekly with her friends. Her passion for life was an inspiration to all.
Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, on Tuesday, October 26, from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at Christ Church (Parish) Church, 245 Westmoreland Street, Fredericton on Wednesday, October 27, at 2 pm.For those who wish, the family encourages a donation to the charity of their choice, in lieu of flowers.
