Myles Tighe, 76, of Daley Road, passed away peacefully at home, Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Victoria, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Turnbull) Tighe. Milie was a former member of St. Joseph's Church, New Victoria.
Milie worked in the coal mines, then changed his career and became a steam fitter. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters and Plumbers Union, Local 682 and was always there to lend a helping hand to his brethren.
Milie was a veteran of the Korean War, serving overseas at a young age of 19. Milie received the Canadian Peacekeeper's Service Medal. He was also a member of the Army, Navy, Airforce, New Waterford.
Milie loved gardening, playing the piano, guitar and singing with his wife, Jeanette. He also enjoyed camping in Gabarus and playing a good game of bingo. But mostly, Milie will be remembered as a very caring man who loved his family. He especially enjoyed Sunday afternoons when the family would get together and enjoy a good meal and have lots of laughs.
Milie is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Doyle) Tighe; two daughters, Sharon Ann Pitts (William 'Bill'), Sydney Mines, Emily Darlene Burdge (Glendon), Sydney Forks; seven sons, David Myles (Jenny), Victoria Mines, Edward Daniel (Anne), Sydney, Darrel Thomas (Michelle), Glace Bay, Donald Germaine (Jerrylynn), New Victoria, J. Blaise (Marion), Victoria Mines, Myles Sheldon, New Victoria and Michael Gerard (Michelle), Halifax.
Milie is survived by one brother, Wallace, New Victoria; four sisters, Mona (Frank) Fahey, Annie McNeil, both in New Victoria, Emily Fahey, Reserve Mines, and Bunnie Pretty (Don), Ottawa. Also left to mourn his death are 13 grandchildren, Joann, David, Mark, Makaila, Ashley, Brandon, Crystal, Jacob, D.J., Lindsay, Blaise Jr., Eric, Liam and four great-grandchildren, Georgia, Ava, Audrey, Dylan; several nieces and nephews.
Milie was predeceased by two daughters, Joanne and Carol, grandson, Vincent Myles Campbell and his siblings, Elizabeth, Obidise, Patrick, Joe, Dempsey, Jackie and Clarence.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Doug MacDonald is Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Avenue. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Victoria. All are welcome to join the family for a reception in St. Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
As an expression of sympathy for Milie, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society or Palliative Care.
The Tighe family would like to thank Dr. I. Oei, Palliative Care, Sitters, staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the VON for their compassion and care.
